RICHMOND, Va. — Richmond Ivy (4-3-0, 12 pts) fell on the road to Lancaster Inferno (4-1-0), 4-0. The Ivy would build successfully throughout the match but ultimately shots fell slightly wide of the net and defensive deflections would send others out of play.
The Ivy pushed towards goal throughout the match seeing strong ball movement and consistent build up. Left center back Kenley Campbell created several opportunities for the Ivy, playing dangerous passes into attacking areas. Kanna Matsuhisa got on the end of a few of Campbell’s passes but her shots fell just wide of the net.
Matsuhisa would also send a few crosses in for Madie Vincent and Taylor Berry who made several incisive runs but the Lancaster keeper would step in the way before they found feet.
In the last minute of the first half, the Inferno were able to break through with a goal in transition.
The Ivy pushed back coming out in the second half. Berry and Matsuhisa continued to be a nuisance up top, but the Inferno would break through again. Sideline confusion for both teams allowed the Inferno to sneak through a second goal and they found a third shortly after.
The Ivy found a renewed push when adding academy call-ups Annabel Sharrer, Ana Tornabene and Aliya Cobb to the mix — on the backline, in the midfield and up top.
Still, one more Lancaster goal would cross the line before the match closed.
The Ivy return to the City Stadium pitch on Thursday, June 13 to host Patuxent FA. The team will host Women’s Empowerment Night presented by First Tee and a “dress up like your idol” contest.
