RICHMOND, Va. — Richmond Ivy Soccer Club is pleased to announce that Georgetown University player and Richmond United alumna Erin Junkmann will join the team for its inaugural season pending league and federation approval.
“I am super excited to be a part of the inaugural team for Richmond Ivy SC,” Junkmann said. “It is going to be a great, competitive training environment and I am really excited to see how well our team performs this season!”
As a senior with the Hoyas, Junkmann appeared in nine games and started seven. Across her appearances, the Hoyas went 8-1-1. She ultimately played in 18 games for the Hoyas amounting 482 minutes total.
“Erin is a technical defender with the ability to start attacks from the back,” Georgetown Head Coach Dave Nolan said. “She has good size and strength and is an experienced defender capable of playing anywhere along the backline. Toss in a strong personality with good leadership traits, she is an excellent addition to any team.”
Those leadership qualities were present well before Junkmann joined the Hoyas. A Midlothian native, Junkmann attended Midlothian High School where she played and started, serving as captain during her junior and senior seasons. She led the team to become 2019 region champions and to the 2019 state semifinals.
“We are excited to welcome Erin to the Richmond Ivy and we can’t wait to add her to the mix of the talented players we have on our roster,” Sporting Director Madeline McCracken said. “She comes to our team with experience playing at a high collegiate level. Along with her experience and veteran presence, she is well-rounded in both the attacking and defending phases of the game. Her leadership on and off the field will be critical to our success. We are excited to welcome Erin to our team!”
Junkmann earned three First Team All-Conference and All-Regional selections across 2017, 2018 and 2019. As a high school senior, Junkmann earned 2019 regional player of the year. She was also selected to the All-State First-Team in 2019 and the Second Team in 2018. Junkmann earned two-time second team all-metro honors in 2018 and 2019.
In addition to her high school team, Junkmann played for Richmond United ECNL from 2016-2020. For RU, she served as captain three years in a row bringing her leadership skills to every level of play and every team she played on.
“I’m excited to welcome Erin to our Richmond Ivy roster,” Head Coach Kimmy Cummings said. “Erin brings a wealth of experience to the roster. She is a hard defender that will get stuck into tackles while being a general of the backline. Erin’s field vision is great and I believe her veteran leadership in the backline will help solidify our overall game model. I’m excited to see all the ways she will bring excitement to City Stadium this season!”
After spending the summer with the Ivy, Junkmann will transfer to the University of Michigan for her graduate year of eligibility.
