RICHMOND, Va. — Richmond Ivy Soccer Club is pleased to announce that Roanoke College defender Bree Fulkerson will join the team for its inaugural season pending league and federation approval.
“I am honored by the opportunity to play for this team and beyond excited to get to play this summer with new teammates in front of all the supportive Richmond fans!” Fulkerson said. “I look forward to growing as a soccer player both on and off the field learning from such talented and experienced teammates and coaches.”
Fulkerson arrived at Roanoke College for the 2023 season and made an immediate impact as a true freshman. She played all 90 minutes in her collegiate debut in the season-opener against Penn State Harrisburg.
“Bree made an impact in our back line as a freshman giving us stability and transition into the attack. We are thrilled she continues to play at a high level in Richmond this summer!” Roanoke Head Coach Phil Benne said.
By the end of the season, Fulkerson recorded fewer than 45 minutes played in a match twice. In both of those instances, the Maroons led by two goals before Fulkerson came out and they would ultimately win by at least four.
The Glen Allen native attended Deep Run High School with fellow Ivy players Ava LeGault and Logan Marks. Fulkerson earned All-Region selection twice while at Deep Run and helped lead the team to a regional title in 2023. She also made the 2023 All-Metro team and the Wildcats went 18-1-1 her senior year (9-0-1 in conference).
Fulkerson and the rest of the backline only allowed seven goals against the Wildcats in her senior season.
“Bree is someone who reads the game well, has a strong presence, and helps command the back line through organization and leadership,” Sporting Director Madeline McCracken said. “We believe she will be a great addition to our locker room with the work ethic, passion and energy she brings with her and we are so excited for her to join Richmond Ivy SC.”
Throughout her high school career and before, Fulkerson played for Richmond Strikers. She played for Ivy Head Coach Kimmy Cummings in 2016 and ultimately earned a spot on the Strikers’ Elite Girls team from 2020 on.
“I’m thrilled to welcome Bree to the Richmond Ivy roster,” Cummings said. “I first coached Bree in 2016 with the Richmond Strikers and have watched her growth over the years first hand. She is an extremely coachable player and is dangerous on both sides of the ball. Bree has the ability to break out in possession higher up the field and is able to cover ground to get behind the ball quickly to end opposition attacks. She is absolutely the type of teammate that will have your back on and off the field and adding a player with her character was of the utmost importance in building our roster. I’m excited to see what she will accomplish with us!”
